Overseas immunisation history

If your child has had vaccinations overseas you can ask for a review of their immunisation history to ensure it meets Australian requirements. You can ask for this history statement and ‘catch-up program’ from your doctor (GP) or via Council by completing an Overseas Immunisation enquiry, and a member of the immunisation team will contact you.

HPV vaccine catch-up program

Did you miss out on the HPV vaccine while at school?

Teenagers and young adults who didn't receive the HPV vaccine as scheduled in Year 7 at school due to COVID lockdowns, recent migration to Australia, or other reasons can be vaccinated by Brimbank City Council.

Facts about HPV you need to know

  • HPV stands for human papillomavirus which is a common virus targeting both males and females.
  • Most people will catch this virus at some stage in their life. The HPV vaccine helps prevent common types of HPV that can cause cancers of the penis, vagina, cervical, throat, anal and other types of cancers.
  • The vaccine is offered free to Year 7 students before the child is exposed to the virus however the vaccine can be given up to 26 years of age.
  • Australia is on track to eliminate cervical cancer by 2035 with the help of HPV vaccination rates; the free school immunisation program has reduced HPV infection rates by 92%.

Childhood Immunisation History Statements

When you enrol your child at a childcare centre or primary school in Victoria, it's a legal requirement to provide an Immunisation History Statement.

This statement can be obtained from Medicare Australia using a MyGov account or my contacting the Australian Immunisation Register.

Once all childhood vaccinations have been completed per the Victorian immunisation schedule, the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) will send you a History Statement.

The bottom of the statement should read ‘This child has received all vaccines required by 5 years of age’. This becomes your School Entry Certificate.

If you have not received your child’s History Statement (or if it’s lost), please call AIR on 1800 653 809.
