Social support groups

We offer a range of social support to help older people remain active and connected in the community.

Anyone interested in joining our groups and activities must be registered with My Aged Care. All referrals for these programs must come through My Aged Care.

Social support groups and centre-based respite

Our social support groups offer a range of activities throughout Brimbank. They provide a chance for people to socialise and interact with others away from their home and in a fixed base facility or community-based setting. We also provide culturally specific programs too.

As part of the program, people who are eligible are provided with:

  • a main meal
  • assistance with transport to attend.

Suitability to attend specific programs depends on the person's specific individual needs and transport needs. There is a fee for the service and is dependent on your income.

The service delivery team will contact you to complete an occupational health and safety checklist and to discuss your service plan, role and responsibilities and your fees.

The Community Transport Service operates Monday to Saturday for eligible older people and people with a disability who use Brimbank community facilities and services such as:

  • senior citizen groups
  • social support programs
  • shopping.

A preservice commencement checklist or screening will be completed with the persons. This service does not require a My Aged Care assessment.

For more information and to discuss your care needs, contact Council's Service Access team on 03 9249 4494.
